What is the Public Library Foundation of Beaufort County?

PLFBC was established in 2005 as a charitable organization to provide support for Beaufort County’s current and future public libraries.

How do the Friends of the Library organizations differ from the foundation?

The Friends of the Library organizations are membership organizations that support the activities of their local library branch.

Are contributions tax-deductible?

Yes. PLFBC has federal tax-exempt status under Section 501(c) 3 of the Internal Revenue Service Code. The tax ID number to be used when making a contribution is EIN# 14-1925-218. All donors to the foundation will receive a Letter of Acknowledgement recognizing the amount and date of the gift as appropriate and in accordance with current tax laws.

How do I make out a check to PLFBC?

Checks should be made payable to: Public Library Foundation, 311 Scott Street, Suite 201, Beaufort, SC 29902.

May I designate my contribution to a specific project or program?

In accordance with the Donor Bill of Rights, you may specify what purpose to which your gift should be used. Donors are “assured their gifts will be used for the purposes for which they were given.”

Does the Public Library Foundation of Beaufort County have local stewardship?

The Public Library Foundation of Beaufort County is an independent board made up of Beaufort County residents, including the current chairperson of the Library Board of Trustees. It is completely independent and separate from any government agency. The Foundation Board and its volunteers raise funds and allocate expenditures for the PLFBC. All contributions made to the PLFBC will be used to benefit public libraries in Beaufort County, South Carolina.
